Heavy rainfall dilutes pool water chemical concentrations. Low Total Alkalinity often produce persistent green pool water, despite the presence of high chlorine levels. Low pool water stabiliser levels often produce persistent green pool water, despite the presence of a salt chlorinator running on high setting.
We recommend Total Alkalinity should be maintained at 120ppm and Stabiliser should be no less than 40ppm, no more than 80ppm.
Stabiliser does not dissipate like pool acid or chlorine. It is important for you to regularly have a pool stabiliser level test done at your local pool shop. Stabiliser levels above 80ppm often lead to chlorine lock (green pool water). The only solution for over-stabilised pool water is to discard it and top up with fresh water.
Full pump baskets cause a drop in suction pressure. A drop in suction pressure reduces your pool pump’s ability to suck, circulate and filter your pool water and makes your pool cleaner stop. Your pool pump is your most important piece of equipment. You can have pool water circulation without pool water filtration. You cannot have pool water filtration, without pool water circulation.
Filter sand progressively becomes less effective as the sand grains become coated with the pool chemicals we use, to maintain pool water clarity. Pool water circulation with filtration, contributes as much as 80% toward your pool water staying blue and clear. Filter sand generally becomes ineffective, after 2 years
Cracks in your pool?
Primary causes of cracks in your pool, pool mosaic pattern, poolside paving is conflicting rates of expansion and contraction. The top of Pools bounded by solid poolside paving extending to solid walls, even on one side of the pool, can only expands and contract inward, the rest of the pool bounded by soil on one side with pool water on the other, can expand and contract freely either way causing conflicting rates of expansion and contraction.
Primary causes of pool water loss (if more than up to 50mm per week evaporation allowance, slightly less with a pool cover) are the fitting which connects your aimflow water return to your return line pipe, and your skimmer box (weir) fitting which connects your skimmer box to your suction line
There is no substitute for a pool-side pool water test. The “fresher” the pool water, the more accurate the test. Take your pool water directly to your chosen pool shop. Do not leave it to get hot in your car, as the test results will be inaccurate. Know your pool capacity. Too much pool water chemicalisation, is not good for your pool filter sand, too little chemicalisation will not achieve the desired result
Often you get told what the teller thinks you would like to hear. This methodology seldom produces positive results If you have a pool problem and you would like the truth about what is wrong or can be improved upon, why that is so how to fix it and how much it will cost, ask us.
We have been giving advice for 25 years. Many have followed our advice, many positive results achieved.
Yours sincerely,
